What animals can use a field shelter?

Field shelters can be used for horses, ponies, donkeys, alpacas, llamas, sheep and goats.

The right size will depend on the animals you're keeping, how many will use the shelter and how much room they need.

Field shelters for horses and ponies

Most of our customers buy mobile field shelters for horses and ponies, and we offer several sizes depending on the number and size of horses using them.

Our field shelters are available in:

• 3.6m x 3.6m: Suitable for a single pony or regular-sized horse
• 5.4m x 3.6m: Suitable for two ponies or one large horse
• 7.2m x 3.6m: Suitable for three ponies or two large horses
• 10.9m x 3.6m: Our largest option, with plenty of room for several horses or ponies.

Can donkeys use a field shelter?

Yes. A mobile field shelter can give donkeys somewhere dry and protected to get out of bad weather.

For one or two donkeys, consider our 3.6m x 3.6m or 5.4m x 3.6m shelters. If you have a larger group, our 7.2m x 3.6m and 10.9m x 3.6m shelters give them more room.

Make sure there's enough space for all your donkeys to use the shelter comfortably and get in and out easily.

Field shelters for alpacas and llamas

Mobile field shelters are also suitable for alpacas and llamas. As they're social animals that are usually kept in groups, an open-fronted shelter gives them plenty of room to move in and out.

What size shelter do alpacas need?

The size you need will depend on how many alpacas you have and how you manage them.

For a group, we usually recommend one of our larger 7.2m x 3.6m or 10.9m x 3.6m buildings. Make sure there's enough room for all the animals to use the shelter without blocking the entrances.

You can also add a gate if you need to separate animals when you need to.

Can you use a field shelter for sheep and goats?

Yes. For sheep and goats, a mobile field shelter can also give you a useful space for jobs such as shearing and treatment.

Why choose a mobile field shelter?

One of the main benefits of a mobile field shelter is being able to move it around your land.

If the ground around your shelter becomes muddy or badly worn, you can tow it to another part of the field using a 4x4 or tractor.

It's also useful if you rotate your grazing or need to move the shelter to a better position at different times of year.
